For our latest collaboration, Johann Wolff teamed up with a dear friend to create something truly special. We flew down to CDMX to meet up with the one and only Abeja, from Rawayana, as the collaboration was about to go live on our site. If you’re not familiar with Rawayana’s soft vocals and tropical infused melodies, well, you’re missing out. Go have listen and ride the sonic wave, preferably somewhere warm by a body of water with a delicately chilled adult beverage in hand. You’ll thank us later.
Abeja has been a longtime supporter of Johann Wolff, sporting the same frame year after year. The Anna. His Annas have become synonymous with his personal style to the point where when he’s not wearing them his friends and fans are concerned there’s been a glitch in the matrix, throwing the energy off kilter. Naturally, our design team felt it was right to create a signature Anna with Abeja made to his specifications. Over the years he’s tried several lens and frame color combos, however he seems to gravitate back to one combination. Dark Havana and Tuscan lenses.
“The tint of the lenses puts me in a relaxed mood,” says Abeja in regards to the warm brown and burnt yellow lens tones he’s been experimenting with over the years. Given his name, “Abeja” or “Bee”, he felt that naturally the color of honey had to be channeled for the collaboration frame. After lots of trial and error, our design team managed to achieve the perfect honey tinted lens. A team favorite at Johann Wolff, given a yellow base color achieves a unique optical clarity by allowing the eye to perceive its surroundings through a warm filter. Think of stepping out into the sun after a few gloomy days – how the warmth on your skin creates an uplifting feeling throughout the body. Yellow and brown lenses achieve the same feeling through the eyes.
We limited the Abeja Anna production run to a small batch. They say great things come in small quantities – 100 units felt right this time around for the special edition release. These unique frames feature a richer and deeper Dark Havana acetate treatment than what we’ve done in the past, serving as a high contrast to the Tuscan yellow lenses. Brass rivets marry the front of the frame to the temples, working as an elegant bridge between the warm colors. Finished with Abeja’s signature on the inner left temple and the bee insignia as the stamp of approval.
You can now shop the collaboration on our site or in person at the Johann Wolff flagship boutique. Our team enjoyed merging minds with Abeja to reinterpret a classic from our eyewear roster. He let us know that he always keeps a pair of shades in his go-bag, along with a spare t-shirt, cologne and a Playstation with four remotes. We hope these become part of your everyday, allowing you to see the world through Abeja’s lens. A honey colored tint to brighten your mood.
